In a recent interview prior to the Intelligent Automation Conference, Ben Ball, IBM's Senior Director of Product Marketing, discussed the company's latest AI initiatives and the innovative Concert product.
IBM's primary focus in AI research and development is centered around its application in technology operations. Ball highlighted the increasing complexity faced by individuals trying to develop applications in today's world, with numerous tools and environments involved in the process, leading to overwhelming amounts of data.
To address this issue, IBM has introduced IBM Concert, which utilizes AI to analyze the extensive data associated with application development and maintenance. Ball explained that the platform uses AI to understand how applications function and offers recommendations for improvement.
Looking ahead, Ball mentioned the opportunity to organize unstructured data that feeds into AI models, emphasizing the importance of bridging the gap between raw data and AI-ready formats. IBM Concert is expected to evolve further by incorporating tools to structure data in a way that is more easily processed by AI engines.
Furthermore, IBM is focusing on explainability in AI, allowing users to question and understand the recommendations provided by AI systems. Ball stressed the significance of not blindly accepting AI suggestions and highlighted the feature in IBM Concert that enables users to delve deeper into the reasoning behind AI-generated conclusions.
In addition to IBM Concert, IBM offers a range of AI technologies and tools, including watsonx and AI governance solutions. Ball noted that IBM aims to provide a "use-case-neutral" approach, enabling customers to effectively utilize AI technologies across various applications.
